Armed officers descended on Macclesfield town centre.

Cheshire Police were alerted to reports of an incident on Queen Victoria Street on Wednesday afternoon, September 23.

The caller stated that unknown men had been seen making threats, wielding a firearm and a knife.

While no such weapons were found, officers did arrest a 28-year-old man on suspicion of making threats to kill.

A spokesperson for the force said: "At around 4.30pm on Wednesday, September 23, officers in Macclesfield responded to reports of an incident in the Queen Victoria Street area of the town.

"The caller reported that a number of unknown men had been seen the area with a firearm and a knife and were making a number of threats.

"Local officers, supported by colleagues from Firearms, attended the scene and conducted a search of the area.

"No weapons were located, but a 28-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of threats to kill.

"He remains in custody at this time, assisting officers with their enquiries."
