A murder investigation has been launched following the discovery of a body at an address in Macclesfield.

Police were called to Cross street at 10.35pm on Tuesday (August 19) following reports of a 'sudden death'.

Upon arrival, officers found the body of 41-year-old Stephen Rothwell.

Enquiries have led to the arrest of a 41-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, both from the Macclesfield area.

A third woman, aged 42, has also been arrested and all three currently remain in custody.

DI Simon Mills, who is leading the investigation, said: "Officers are currently in the Macclesfield area carrying out further enquiries into the circumstances of the death.

"We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the area of Cross Street between 8am on Monday 18 August and 11pm on Tuesday 19 August.

"The same goes for anyone who has CCTV, doorbell footage, or dashcam in relation to those times and locations. Information can be shared with us using https://mipp.police.uk/operation/07CH25D71-PO1."

Mr Rothwell's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers at this difficult time.
