AstraZeneca workers have urged the Government to back their manufacturing ambitions.

GMB Union is calling on ministers to create 'the right environment for investment' at AstraZeneca's Macclesfield campus, a site with over six decades of pharmaceutical manufacturing expertise.

The UK's largest pharmaceutical company has set its sights on becoming an $80 billion business by 2030, up from $54 billion today.

It is claimed such progress would secure thousands of existing jobs, create new high-skilled roles, boost exports, and deliver economic growth.

To aid this ambition, GMB wants a seat at the new medicines pricing working group and a firm commitment from Government to ensure future investment leads to another blockbuster drug being produced in Macclesfield.

Steve Boden, GMB regional organiser, said: "This is a golden opportunity to back British manufacturing and secure the future of a world-class site.

"Macclesfield has been at the heart of UK pharma for over 60 years, and with the right support, it can continue to lead the way.

"We need Government to step up, create the conditions for growth, and make sure the next big breakthrough is made right here in the North West."
