‘Badge of honour’ - Macclesfield MP banned from Russia for his support of Ukraine

Macclesfield's MP has been banned from Russia for his support of Ukraine.
Tim Roca has been named among 15 UK Members of Parliament sanctioned by the Russian Federation.
The move, announced by the Russian Foreign Ministry, bans the MPs from entering Russia in what it describes as a response to the UK's 'confrontational course'.
Mr Roca, who has been publicly critical of Vladimir Putin and Russia's invasion, called the sanctions a 'badge of honour' and has vowed to continue standing up for Ukrainian sovereignty and freedom.
He said: "Being sanctioned by Putin's regime is a badge of honour. It confirms that standing up for Ukraine's freedom and against Russian tyranny matters—and that it's making an impact."

The Labour MP has visited Ukraine during the conflict and met with civilians suffering from the consequences of Russia's unprovoked invasion.
He described the move by the Kremlin as a desperate attempt to silence dissenting voices.
"I've seen the devastation caused by this illegal invasion," Mr Roca said.
"No sanction will silence me. I'll continue to speak out for Ukraine and against the Kremlin's brutal campaign."
Mr Roca believes the sanctions are retaliation for his ongoing efforts in Parliament to hold Russia accountable for its aggression, including advocating for the seizure of frozen Russian assets and stronger international sanctions.
"This is what authoritarian regimes do when they fear the truth. They try to intimidate, but I won't be cowed," he added.

He also condemned the Kremlin's continued aggression, calling it a direct threat to international peace.
"Russia's actions are a grave threat to peace, stability, and democracy not just in Europe, but around the world," said Mr Roca.
"The UK must remain united in standing with Ukraine and defending democratic values."
The Russian Foreign Ministry has indicated that its 'stop list' may be expanded in the future.
