It's easy to stay indoors over the Christmas period, but if the weather's good, then it's great to get out and enjoy some fresh air.
Walking is a perfect way to get some low-intensity exercise and a great way to spend time with friends and family.
We've rounded up some walks in and around Macclesfield, which are easily accessible without having to drive far.

Local parks
First, it's worth noting the parks you can take a stroll around.
West Park is accessible from the Sainsbury's car park and is a nice way to take a break from the rush of shopping.
It also connects to Macclesfield Crematorium, birthplace of Joy Division's Ian Curtis.
If you're out and about in town, Victoria Park is just a short walk away (11 minutes from the Town Hall).
Just slightly further out is South Park, with tennis courts, a skatepark and plenty of play equipment to keep the little ones entertained.

Macclesfield Golf Club
Walkable from Macclesfield town entre, Macclesfield Golf Club is a great way to access some local countryside without having to get in your car and face the Christmas traffic.
You can start this walk from just about anywhere in the town, so long as you head down Mill Street towards the lower end of town.
From the cenotaph, follow Mill Lane, keeping WOE Pottery, Swindells and Space4 Autism on your right.
Cross at the traffic lights onto Windmill Street, then it's straight up to Macclesfield Golf Club.
Follow Hollins Road past a small row of houses, then you're free to explore the countryside of the Hollins and view the golf course – but stick to the path and keep an eye out for balls!

The Middlewood Way – Macclesfield to Bollington
If you're looking for a gentle, flat walk, the Middlewood Way is a great option, and you can walk from Macclesfield to Bollington via this route.
Starting near Macclesfield railway station head towards the Travelodge and go through the underpass.
Cross at the traffic lights near the hand car wash and follow Black Lane towards the Tesco petrol station.
Join the walking track and you're on the Middlewood Way.
Follow it under the Silk Road and keep to the right, heading towards the lights on Brocklehurst Way, with the McDonald's roundabout to your right.
Eventually, you will reach Middlewood Way Bridge, which will take you right over the Silk Road.
From there, follow the track around to the left, to a straight section which will lead you all the way to Bollington.
This gentle walk is a great way of covering some distance without having to put too much strain on yourself.
