Last year's Deputy Mayor of Bollington has become Mayor, switching roles with 2020's Mayor who has become Deputy.

Councillor Johanna Maitland was elected as Town Mayor for the Civic Year 2021/2022 this week, during the first in person Annual Meeting for Bollington Town Council since the start of the pandemic.

The Mayor Making Ceremony and meeting took place in person as the Emergency Legislation which allowed for virtual meetings to take place during the pandemic expired and was not extended by the Government.

In order for social distancing measures to be observed the ceremony took place in the Civic Hall on Palmerston Street, rather than the Town Hall on Wellington Road.

Attendees were sat over two metres apart, and were seated in a horseshoe arrangement.

The Mayor of Cheshire East, Cllr. Sarah Pochin, the Mayor of Poynton, Cllr. Lee Podmore, the Deputy Mayor of Macclesfield, Cllr. David Edwardes and the Mayor of Congleton, Cllr. Denis Murphy all viewed the event via online livestream.

Members of the public, past mayors and the friends and family of those involved also watched the ceremony.

The Mayor of Knutsford, Cllr. Stewart Gardiner, attended in person along with past mayors Mrs Sandra Edwards and Mr Andrew Langdon.

Cllr. Maitland joined Bollington Town Council in July 2019 and represents East Ward. Mr Andrew Maitland was invested as her Consort.

Bollington's new Mayor was previously Deputy Mayor for the town, and has switched her role with the previous Mayor.

Cllr. John Stewart was elected as Deputy Mayor and appeared in Cllr. Maitland's official photography, taken by local Lauren Stout.

Elsewhere at the Bollington event on May 11, Erin Vincent was invested as Mayor's Youth Consort.

Bollington-resident Charlotte Simpson was appointed as Town Mayor's Chaplain.

In a statement on Instagram, the new mayor said:

"Thanks for the messages, flowers, kind words of support, friends and loved ones cheering me on and to John who has left big boots for me to fill in the year ahead."

The chosen charities our new Mayor will be The Bridgend Centre, who can be found on Bollington's 104 Palmerston St, and The Pink Ribbon Foundation.
