A Bollington woman has been jailed after stealing water and wine.

Anna Hughes will spend 22 weeks behind bars after admitting to one charge of theft from a shop.

The 28-year-old stole £8.95 worth of wine and water from a Tesco Superstore in Macclesfield on Thursday (August 28).

Hughes, of Hazelhurst Drive in Bollington, appeared at Chester Magistrates Court the following day where she was sentenced to 22 weeks imprisonment.

The bulk of this sentence, 18 weeks, is from a previous suspended sentence order handed to her on July 17 for possession of a bladed article, with Hughes having been found with a saw on Bollington Road two days prior, on July 15.

She was given an 18-week sentence suspended for 12 months as it was felt there was a realistic prospect of rehabilitation.

However, following the theft from Tesco, Hughes has now been jailed for the full 22 week period.

She will also have to pay £1.70 in compensation for the theft.
