Books: Five current Macclesfield authors you should check out

Macclesfield Nub News is an independent-spirited website, and loves to support local business. So it is high time we celebrate our town's indie authors, instead of gushing about our own writing for a change!
Get lost in the books of these five Macclesfield authors, we recommend you should read.
And do let us know if there are any Macclesfield area authors we missed from the list, as we'd love to work with them!

1. Susan Earlam
The most recently-published storyteller on the list, Macclesfield-resident Susan Earlam released her chilling novel Earthly Bodies in April 2021.
It is an ecological horror book, set in the next few decades, as a world devastated by climate change trains a select group of Brits to leave Earth.
The non-linear narrative tells a dystopian survival story through the lens of both the powerful and the people affected by environmental disaster.
With private cars outlawed by the 2050s, it is a gripping yet chilling read, anchored by being set in a near future that very well could come true. 2. Kitty Riggs
Remarkably, 21-year-old Tytherington author Kitty Riggs has already had two books published.
Riggs' most recent effort is a one-of-a-kind adventure exploring the question WHAT IF BOWIE WERE A WOMAN?.
The fiction biography delves into whether gender can influence people's chances at succeeding in their career; by switching the already androgynous rockstar into a digestible 'female' character. Female Bowie-substitute Penny Jones,' navigates her way through her career in the music industry and her journey through womanhood.
As the publication's themes hint at larger societal questions, you don't even have to enjoy Bowie's music to enjoy it. Her books are sold in Brocklehurst Way business Moulina, as well as on Amazon, where they have a five-star rating for her latest effort. Her next project is out this year. 3. Charles Heathcote
A Macclesfield author and literary YouTuber also holds the title of secretary to the Macclesfield Creative Writing Group.
He has five books, with the Our Doris series and his January 2020 paperback An Heir to Murder.
The death of an auntie leads to niece moving into a sleepy village, where another murder takes place. It soon becomes a buddy detective book set in the heart of England, and explores other killings dating back half-a-century.

4. Jenny Martin
Bollington's Jenny Martin has penned eight pieces of published work.
From poetry to non-fuction tales of living in Cumbria, to her best-received book, One Dog and His Cop, published November 30 2020 by SilverWood Books.
Her most recent release contains mentions of an ex-Macclesfield police dog, with the narrative following the heartwarming true story of a cuddly German Shepherd puppy, grew into an award-winning and brave police dog.
And buying the book will even help charity, sales proceeds to be donated to Dogs Trust. Macclesfield MP David Rutley was among the big endorsers of Jenny Martin's feel-good title.

5. Fay Evans
With over 2000 followers across Facebook and Twitter, Fay Evans is a regular at The King's School among other Macclesfield places of education.
The kids writer's first publication released a 36-page rhyming tale Bob's Beard in 2018. But it was her other book Fred The Fire-Sneezing Dragon which has attracted national media attention, and sold better. Costing £7.99 on Amazon, Fay's fable has themes of anti-bullying, and about being yourself. She hopes to turn the 30-page book into a musical.
