Thieves tunnelled into a shop and stole £260,000 worth of designer handbags.

Police are appealing for information and witnesses following a burglary at a store in Prestbury.

At around 11.40pm on Sunday (June 8), officers responded to reports of a burglary at an address on St James House New Road.

It is understood that three unknown offenders accessed a disused building next door at around 10.30pm that evening.

They then created a hole in the adjoining wall and entered the store through the chimney area.

The offenders stole a number of high-value designer handbags, with a total estimated cost of around £260,000.

Detective Constable Clare Slattery, of Macclesfield CID, said: "Our enquiries are ongoing, and we would urge anyone who witnessed this incident or saw anything suspicious to get in touch with us.

"The same goes for anyone with dashcam footage or CCTV which might aid our investigation.

"We also want to hear from anyone who thinks they may have information regarding the whereabouts of the items that were stolen."
