A cancer survivor wants you to join him on his next fundraising mission.

Mark Love will walk from the Christie's Macclesfield cancer centre to the trust's main site in Manchester this weekend.

The now 60-year-old was diagnosed with cancer in February 2023, with doctors having first thought it to be kidney stones.

Thanks to the care he received at the Christie, he is now celebrating two years cancer-free.

He said: "It was surreal (receiving my diagnosis).

"The doctor was brilliant. Before I even had a chance to ask a question he said 'don't worry, we'll have it out in five weeks'.

"The Christie is just immense. It's serene, calm and uber professional.

"The staff just fill you with confidence. Even now going in to talk to them about this challenge, you just feel like they know what they're doing and they are very caring."

Stockport County fan Mark is no stranger to fundraising, which he says is 'in his blood'.

In the past he has completed walks dressed as Pikachu, a minion and even a speed camera to support the Wellspring homeless charity.

His next challenge will be a 16.5-mile walk in support of the Christie.

Mark said: "The past couple of years have been tough. I've struggled with motivation and health after surgery, and sadly, I've also experienced some heartbreaking personal losses.

"A very close friend of mine, who had his kidney removed just four weeks before me, passed away.

"More recently, I lost my sister after her courageous 14-year battle with cancer.

"Like so many others, cancer has touched too many corners of my life – friends, colleagues, extended family – all affected in some way by this relentless disease."

The walk will start this Saturday (July 5) at the Christie in Macclesfield.

Joined by 14 others who have signed up to take part, Mark will follow the River Bollin to Prestbury, continuing on towards Bramhall, with a pit stop in his hometown of Cheadle Hulme.

From there, the group will make their way to the Christie's main site in Withington.

Mark added: "It's all coming together now.

"I'm really looking forward to it!"

At the time of writing, Mark and co have raised around £5,000.
