A crowdfunder has been launched in memory of a Macclesfield butcher.

Marshall Spearing, who worked at his multi-generational family butchers on 12 Park Green, passed away last month.

His family can cover funeral costs - but want to raise money for charity in his memory.

They are raising funds for three national charities, and have raised almost £300 thus far.

Rachael Spearing, one of his daughters, who has been General Manager of the business since 2012, has launched the JustGiving page.

"In Memory of Marshall Spearing, loving husband, father and grandfather," she said.

"[Marshall passed] on Friday 24th September 2021, peacefully in hospital, aged 73 years.

"Marshall Spearing was the Proprietor of Spearings Family Butchers of Park Green and will be missed greatly by his loving Family and his many loyal and highly valued Customers.

"The Funeral Service will take place at 12.00 Noon on Saturday 16th October at Holy Trinity Parish Church, Rainow followed by Interment."

"Family flowers only, by request, but donations may be made, if so desired, in favour of the Anthony Nolan Trust, the British Heart Foundation or the Christie NHS Foundation Trust."

Donations to the Anthony Nolan Trust can be made here. They benefit leukaemia and stem cell transplants. £85 donated.

£60 for British Heart Foundation and more can be raised here.

And £145 has been raised for The Christie here.

Regulars of the Macc business left tributes including "So sorry for your loss, he was such a character at the butchers. Wishing his family and friends all the strength to get though these days without him" and "A true gentleman xx".

Customers are encouraged to visit the store earlier in the week of the funeral to get their weekend meat before the funeral, to avoid disappointment.

Macclesfield Nub News sends condolences to Marshall's family.
