Charity's new club looks to fill the gap in 'dad-specific' support

A new group is looking to help local dads connect.
Perinatal mental health charity Smile Group has announced the launch of the Antisocial Dads Club.
Starting this Saturday, February 28, the group will meet each month at the Picturedrome in Macclesfield
Nicola Bates, Smile Group's business development manager, said: "All of our services are open to mums, dads and non-birthing partners.
"However, we recognise there is currently a gap in dad-specific support, not only within our own provision, but across Cheshire East more broadly.
"Dads can continue to access our peer support groups and counselling services, but by introducing a dedicated group at the weekend, we hope to reduce barriers for those who may be working during the week or who would benefit from meeting other local dads."
Initially running as a six-month pilot, the idea for the Antisocial Dads Club came about following conversations between Smile Group and Picturedrome.
The food hall on Chestergate reached out to the charity to explore options to provide dad-focused support.
Running from 9.30am to 11.30am, the sessions are open to all dads and their children aged 0-5, with no booking or reference required.
Sessions will include some simple activities such as Lego, Duplo and crafts, while dads can socialise and enjoy a bit to eat from one of Picturedrome's independent food vendors.
Nicola added: "The name is intended as a light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek play on words.
"It aims to gently encourage dads who may feel hesitant about joining groups to attend a space that feels informal and approachable.
"We wanted something that stands out, sparks conversation, and reinforces the importance of connection for fathers too."
