Village council raises 'grave concerns' over plans for 121-mile Peak Cluster Pipeline

A village council has 'grave concerns' over the plans to build a 121-mile underground CO2 pipeline from the Peak District to the Irish Sea.
Prestbury Parish Council has submitted a formal response to the Peak Cluster Pipeline plans put forward by four major cement and lime producers.
The scheme, which would be the world's largest cement decarbonisation scheme, would see the pipeline transporting carbon dioxide pass through Prestbury.
In their response, Prestbury Parish Council wrote: "The parish council strongly questions the destruction of ancient woodlands and habitat, which contribute significantly to CO2 capture, to produce this pipeline. This seems counterproductive.
"The parish council feels that less destructive alternative schemes should be sought such as methods to lessen carbon dioxide at source or in an environmentally more sound way.
"The parish council questions the worthiness of this very destructive scheme to result in only three years' storage capacity.
"It seems a temporary solution for the destruction caused, especially the disruption during construction.
"The land is well managed agricultural land and this will affect the local economy.
"The effect on the livelihoods of those affected will be significant. For example, how will livestock welfare and movements be managed during construction? "
