Official opening of Macclesfield's indoor market signals end of £1.9 million refurbishment

Macclesfield's indoor market has been 'brought back to life'.
The new-look Macclesfield Market Hall officially opened on Thursday, February 19.
It follows a £1.9 million refurbishment, funded through the government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Councillor Fiona Wilson, Macclesfield Town Council's town centre regeneration champion, said: "It's wonderful to see Macclesfield Market Hall brought back to life as a vibrant hub for our town.
"With new stalls, artwork, pop-up spaces for local creatives, and improved facilities including the town centre's first Changing Places toilets, there's truly something for everyone.
"I encourage residents and visitors alike to come along, explore, and support our brilliant traders — this is what community and regeneration is all about."
While the new market stalls have been in place for some time now, the last few weeks have seen the final finishing touches applied.
This includes a stunning new mural by award-winning street artist Peachzz, who painted the swifts at Macclesfield railway station.
The improvements to the Market Hall don't stop at stalls and artwork.
In 2023, new toilets were added, including the town centre's first-ever Changing Places facilities, made possible by a £110,000 grant from Macclesfield Town Council.
Thursday's launch event saw Macclesfield Community ArtSpace and Marc Jackson from Room for Comics host activities in The Corner Stall, a pop-up shop available to rent on a daily basis.
It also offered a chance to explore some of the new traders to have set up shop in the market, including Isle Deli, Taste of Home, Maya Waffle Patisserie.
