A survey has revealed that our local new builds are amongst the most expensive in the region.
Of 32 local authorities in North West England, the Cheshire East has ranked amongst the costliest newly-built homes.
Cheshire East came fifth with a median new housing price of £338,495, according to a report by One Sure Insurance.
Home insurance broker One Sure Insurance analysed data from the Office for National Statistics to determine which local authorities in the North West had the highest median price for all types of newly built housing last year. These results were then compared and ranked from the highest to the lowest prices.
But it is not all negative news, as Cheshire East was not top in the survey. Not even for authorities located in Cheshire!
Finishing just above Cheshire East was Lancaster, ranked fourth with a median new housing price of £350,000.
Cheshire's Warrington came third with a median new housing price of £427,495.
Cheshire West and Chester ranked second with a median new housing price of £435,000, almost £100,000 more than Cheshire East!
And finally, Lancashire's Chorley came first in the study with the highest median new housing price of £587,495. Wirral had the lowest median new housing price in the study with £135,000.
Manchester scored 11th in the study with a median price paid for all types of newly-built housing being £299,295.
Stockport came 23rd with £238,375.
Liverpool finished second lowest with £170,950.
A spokesperson for One Sure Insurance commented on the findings:
"This study provides valuable insight into the range of prices for newly built housing within local authorities across the North West. While it does not show us what the highest and lowest prices are, these median price points offer a perspective on the potential average cost for new housing.
"With countless new housing developments across the country each year and an increasing number of people looking into buying new homes, it would be beneficial to see whether these median price points remain the same for each area or might shift depending on the current demand."
This study analysed public data from the Office for National Statistics to determine which local authorities had the highest median recorded price paid for all types of newly built housing last year. These results were then compared and ranked from the highest to the lowest prices to create a top twenty ranking.
Seven north west local authorities were left out of this study due to having no median price point data recorded for all types of housing and/or specific types of housing.
