East Cheshire NHS Trust staff reached new heights as they took on and completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks in aid of raising funds to improve patient experience on the Children's Emergency Department at Macclesfield District General Hospital.
Among the 13 staff to take part were dedicated members from the department including Consultants, Nurses, Housekeepers, Frailty Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) and Medical Senior House Officers (SHOs).
Hundreds of people donated to the cause, including relatives of patients, colleagues, family and friends, with the team raising an incredible £1,695 to go towards purchasing high quality equipment for patients to help improve their experience whilst in the department.
The renowned challenge takes hikers across 24.5 miles of the breathtaking Yorkshire Dales National Park.
It involves climbing Pen-y-ghent (694 meters above sea level), Whernside (Yorkshire's highest peak at 736 meters), and Ingleborough (723 meters).
Rhiannon Evans, Paediatric Sister on ED said, "Each donation makes such a huge difference to our patients.
"It allows us to purchase high quality equipment, over and above what the NHS funds, such as sensory equipment in Children's ED which will help us improve patient experience in the department."
The Emergency Department has recently undergone a refurbishment to create a dedicated children's entrance and waiting area for patients 15 and under and is located just a few steps away from the main ED entrance, under the ambulance bay area.
Lily Preston, Fundraising and Events Manager said, "Thank you so much to everyone who took part in the challenge and donated. It's great to see staff getting behind their local NHS charity".
