Cheshire East Council may consider formally opposing the Adlington new town plans.

Councillors Fiona Wilson and Judy Snowball, of the Labour Party, have put forward a 'Notice of Motion' (NoM) for next week's full borough council meeting.

It asks the council leader and deputy, Nick Mannion and Michael Gorman, to write to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government to confirm Cheshire East's opposition to the Adlington new town proposal.

Ahead of the meeting, the Cheshire East Labour Group is calling on the Mayor of Cheshire East, councillor David Edwardes, to allow a full debate for the NoM at the forthcoming full council meeting, rather than the item being deferred to committee.

The NoM reads: "Council urges the Government to abandon the proposal for a new town in Adlington, Cheshire and to focus on the development of existing brownfield and town centre sites along with the call for new sites as part of the Local Plan process and the involvement of communities in the discussions.

"Should the Minister decide to move to the next stage with the current Adlington site this will require the preparation and publication of the draft proposals and final Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA)."

The NoM continues: "Council re-states its concern over the sudden and significant increase in the housing target for Cheshire East and calls on the Government to halt the speculative housing development applications and restore plan-led development by phasing in the new targets over time.

"Council also calls on the Government to confirm that additional housing provided though new towns will count towards five-year housing land supplies."

The NoM finishes by setting out a number of resolutions.

This includes taking a stance to 'not support the current proposals for a new town at Adlington', to ask the leader and deputy to write to the Secretary of State to confirm the council's position and for the Economy and Growth Committee to be asked to consider any further details of any other proposals brought forward for Cheshire East.

Are they going to discuss the history of the project which various journalists and the CPRE know about but aren't mentioning. The fact that the land owners voluntarily sold to Belport, who then bundled it up into one mortgage at Coutts (Farage's favourite bank..) long before Sunak even set the election date. A couple of minutes free browsing of the Companies House register for Belport Adlington Ltd will show the dates by which it was all tied up..
