Local youngsters have been celebrated for years of fundraising.

Children from Macclesfield Pahal Balgokulam (MPB) were recently presented with the Young Pride of Macclesfield Award.

It was one of several prizes handed out at this year's Mayor's Civic Awards, recognising the group's dedication to cultural learning and service to the community.

Volunteer teacher Abhishika Srivastav, who has been running MPB since 2023, said: "This recognition is a proud milestone for the children, families, and volunteers involved.

"It highlights the positive impact young people can make through teamwork, kindness, and community spirit.

"We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to the Mayor of Macclesfield, councillor Emma Gilman, for choosing to recognise the children through this award.

"It is truly a meaningful initiative to encourage and celebrate the younger generation.

"Recognising children for their positive efforts motivates them to continue contributing to the community with confidence and responsibility.

"As young people are our future, this kind of encouragement is incredibly valuable.

"We sincerely appreciate her thoughtful initiative and support for local children."

Each year, the children at MPB select a cause to raise funds for, helping them to understand the importance of giving back to the community.

In 2024, they raised £180 for Space4Autism and in 2025 they raised the same amount for the Friends of Parkroyal.

This year, the children have selected Macclesfield Seals Swimming Club, with £210 raised thus far.

Aside from fundraising, MPB encourages children to appreciate their heritage and learn more about their culture.

This includes their annual Hindu New Year celebration, which this year included speeches, presentations, music, dance performances and a traditional opening ceremony led by the children.

The event brought together families and members of the local community while raising funds for Macclesfield Seals Swimming Club, who support people of all ages with disabilities.
