Climate justice protest will take place in Macclesfield this week
Campaigners will descend on Market Place in Macclesfield this week.
Climate Justice group Global Justice Macclesfield will raise awareness for their cause, which hopes to get the UK government to donate money to the recently flood-struck Pakistan.
1559 people have perished in the deadly floods, which research reported by NPR indicates 'was helped by climate change'.
Global Justice Macclesfield will meet at Market Place on Thursday September 22 for a day-long protest.
Macclesfield resident and campaigner Francesca Badcock revealed why action is being taken.
"We will be meeting in Macclesfield town centre to demand climate compensation for vulnerable countries," said Francesca.
"We hope to highlight the $10 billion of damage suffered by Pakistan in recent floods and to call for an international 'loss and damage' fund that could help meet some of the costs
"We want the UK government to tax energy companies for climate damages and use some of the funds to compensate lower income countries, that are both more vulnerable to the impact of climate change, and less responsible for its causation."
