Could bats put a halt to Bollington pay-and-display plans?
A carpark in Bollington has gone batty, with a new nest spotted on a sign that could be removed later this year.
The Pool Bank Carpark, on Palmerston Street, is set to switch to a pay-and-display later this year.
However, the terms and conditions sign which states it is currently free to park, is currently housing a colony of bats.
An eagle-eyed Bollington man spotted and snapped the roost.
Bats have been spotted in a bat roost at Bollington's Pool Bank Carpark," he said.
"This is not unusual in itself bet the roost is attached to the carpark's signage explaining the terms & conditions of the carpark that includes free parking.
"The carpark is the centre of a bitter dispute between Cheshire East Council and Bollington residents where Cheshire East council are planning to introduce charges.
"The Labour-led council are hoping to fleece residents for over £1,500 a year having recently awarded clerks and councillors massive pay increases.
"The Council's heist on taxpayers and residents is now in doubt as the bats are roosting on the sign offering free parking but under the wildlife and countryside act, it us illegal to disturb an area where bats are nesting.
"This means, the free parking signage cannot be removed or replaced."
While fares are increasing in many Macclesfield carparks as of today, the free-to-paid carpark introduction won't come until later this year.
Cheshire East Council were contacted for comment, but had nothing to say on record whether this would postpone the introduction of fares later this year.
There is currently no evidence that Cheshire East Council has any plans to remove the sign, when fees will be introduced later this year.
A local who wished to remain anonymous resident added: "The council are evil and were being greedy, but nature works in mysterious ways."
