A new coffee shop could come to south Macclesfield.

That's as Orbit Developments and The Emerson Group have submitted a planning application to Cheshire East Council.

The application form suggests a new Costa Coffee Drive Thru is earmarked for the Lyme Green Retail Park.

The potential drive-thru unit would be found to the south-west of the Brunel Road car park access road.

If approved, it would be Macclesfield's second Costa DRIVE THRU, after one opened last year in the Barracks Mill Retail Park.

Costa also have a non-drive thru premises in Macclesfield town centre, as well as a presence in Macclesfield's Tesco stores.

A planning document says the new Lyme Green Costa Drive Thru would "make a positive visual contribution to the local urban environment and provides opportunities for additional landscaping."

"It would also support and create jobs both through the build and through its occupation and represents economic investment that should be welcomed."

Eight jobs will be created from the new café.

The existing use of the site is for car parking and landscaping.

35 car parking spaces would be lost from the new coffee shop.

But two new disabled car parking spaces would be gained, as would two bays for motorcycles.

The hours of opening would be between 5am and 11pm.

Whilst Costa aren't named as an application, the application regards advertising boards with their names on.

Costa Coffee have been contacted for comment.
