COVID-19 cases in Macclesfield have fallen despite schools return

COVID-19 cases in Macclesfield are falling, despite children returning to school, with no requirement for masks.

It aligns with a national trend, where in the UK on September 8 there were 38,846 new cases. This has fallen down to 29,873 new cases on September 15.

Back at home, not everywhere in Macclesfield has seen a decline in cases.

Here are the latest figures of positive tests, with brackets denoting the change from a week ago, when we last published the latest COVID-19 figures for our town.

Cases on the whole are down across the area. There are a total of 250 cases on the seven days until September 10.

There were 266 cases across Macclesfield on the seven days until September 3. This shows a fall of 16 in a week.

Interestingly, cases in Cheshire East have been on the decline, despite children returning to school.

Despite this, not all places like Macclesfield have cases going down. Cases are on the rise in Congleton.

Between 9 September 2021 and 15 September 2021, 1,347 people across Cheshire East had a confirmed positive test result. This shows a decrease of -11.6% compared to the previous 7 days.

Vaccination figures are expected to increase significantly next week, as the UK recommended 12-15 year olds to get the jab.

This group of secondary school age children - who are carrying a lot of the current positive cases - will be vaccinated from Monday.

Central Macclesfield, which has the lowest vaccination figures in our area due to the high concentration of young people, will expect a large percentage rise next week.

Currently just 82.4% have had their first dose, and 76.6% have had their second dose.

While it is unknown if Macclesfield District General Hospital has any patients, for data protection reasons, we know four Cheshire East people with coronavirus went into hospital on 5 September 2021.

Between 30 August 2021 and 5 September 2021, 15 across Cheshire East went into hospital with coronavirus. This shows an increase of 150.0% compared to the previous 7 days.

There were 14 patients in hospital from Cheshire East with coronavirus on 7 September 2021.

There was 1 coronavirus patient in hospital beds with a mechanical ventilator on 7 September 2021.

There were 0 deaths within 28 days of a positive test for coronavirus reported on 15 September 2021. However, deaths have been on the rise.

Between 9 September 2021 and 15 September 2021, there have been 6 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test. This shows an increase of 20.0% compared to the previous 7 days.
