A former Macclesfield cricketer has earned his first international cap.

Aswad Ullah Khan (26) was a Macclesfield Cricket Club Academy graduate, and later played for the Victoria Road side.

He was called up for Bulgaria for the first time, and played two competitive matches matches in a recent European series.

Mr Khan, who will turn 27 in December, is a right-handed medium fast bowler and batsman.

"Azzy recently received his first international cap and took two wickets for Team Bulgaria Cricket in the Sofia T20 International Tournament," said Macclesfield Cricket Club.

"The tournament celebrated 20 years of cricket since the founding of the Bulgarian Cricket Federation.

"Macclesfield Cricket Club congratulates the former member of the Club and Academy Graduate on his first international cap."

Having competed with Romania, Greece and Serbia last week, Bulgaria progressed to the final of the competition against a strong Romanian side.

But there was no glory for Azzy, as the Bulgarians sadly came up short to the worthy winners of the competition, who played some great cricket remaining undefeated throughout.

"I would like to say a massive thank you to all my coaches, in particular Fred Slater, and team mates at Macclesfield Cricket Club who taught me everything about the game we love," said the ex-Macc cricketer.

"I am honoured to be representing the Mighty Macclesfield on an international level."

The Bulgaria national cricket team have never qualified for the Cricket World Cup.

Their best performance in a tournament was 3rd in Euro Twenty-20, in 2010. They are currently ranked 61st in the world.

Macclesfield Cricket Club was founded in 1847. You can find more about them online, where you can also contact them to play for them.
