Exciting is building ahead of the Macclesfield Pancake Race.

Shrove Tuesday is almost upon us and for most, that means scoffing down as many of the tasty treats as humanly possible.

Here in Macclesfield however, the highlight of the day is the Pancake Race in aid of East Cheshire NHS Charity.

Lily Preston, the charity's fundraising and events manager, said: "We're really looking forward to this years pancake race.

"It's a fantastic community event that brings together local businesses and organisations to support our local healthcare services.

"Last year's event was a tremendous success, and we're excited to make this year's race even bigger and better.

"We have over 20 teams signed up this year and we encourage everyone to participate and help us raise vital funds while having a great time."

Starting at midday on Tuesday (March 4), competitors will sprint up and down Mill Street while flipping pancakes in frying pans.

There will be lots of prizes up for offer, including an award for best fancy dress.

Local radio station Silk FM will be on hand to keep crowds entertained before, during and after the race.

Money raised will help fund enhanced facilities, state-of-the-art medical equipment and all the added extras that make people's experience at Macclesfield District General Hospital, Knutsford Community Hospital, and Congleton War Memorial Hospital the best it can be.
