An eyewitness has recalled the moment they saw a pedestrian get struck down on the Silk Road.

A 37-year-old local man is currently in hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a Toyota Yaris on Saturday night, June 27.

The woman who made the 999 call says she had been driving down the dual carriageway shortly after 11.30pm when she noticed a man stood in the middle of the far lane.

She did a U-turn at the Tesco roundabout and headed back to check on him, however, the man moved lane and was hit by an oncoming vehicle.

She said: "I screamed and turned my engine off before calling the emergency services.

"The impact caused the man to be thrown into the air, landing on the grass verge between the two carriageways."

As of 1.30pm on Wednesday, June 1, the pedestrian remains in hospital.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At 11.40pm on Saturday, June 27, police were called to reports of a collision on Silk Road, Macclesfield.
