While Plan B has not been activated in Britain yet, some educational institutions are taking COVID-measures into their own hands.

Macclesfield College on Park Lane has decided to reintroduce face coverings for all students.

Staff will also be told to wear masks for the first time since restrictions were lifted.

Central Macclesfield, which has frequently had a higher concentration of cases due to low vaccination rates with the amount of ineligible young people in the area, had 55 cases as of October 19.

This pales in comparison to neighbouring ward Macclesfield South & Lyme Green, with just 18 cases.

Macclesfield College said in a statement: "As Covid-19 cases remain high in the Macclesfield and Cheshire East areas, we wish to ensure that cases remain low across the College."

Exact figures for the college are unavailable at this current moment in time.

They added: "To assist us with this, we are asking that all students wear face coverings from Monday 1 November in all communal areas. Students will not be asked to wear masks in the classroom."

"Please maintain social distance whenever possible and use the hand sanitiser stations around the campus.

"We will shortly be coming into winter a time when we really need to keep people safe and reduce the number of Covid-19 infections.

"Our aim is to maximise the number of students in face-to-face education and minimise disruption in a way that manages the Covid-19 risk."

"We of course understand that this is not mandated, but it is our recommendation under the circumstances."

On Sunday, Chancellor Rishi Sunak backed away from reintroducing mask requirements nationwide.

As kids as young as 12 now eligible for the jab, it is hoped vaccination could offset a mask mandate.
