Macclesfield's 'smallest shop' is open for business.

Silktown Soap Company at Dukes Court welcomed its first customers on Sunday (July 27).

The opening marks a huge milestone for Julie Brocklehurst, who started the business during lockdown.

She said: "Opening day was a success with many of my regular customers making the trip to visit the smallest shop in Macclesfield!"

Teaching assistant Julie began dabbling with soap making in 2021, during her scheduled time off as a key worker.

"I would use this down time to be creative," she said.

"I bought a couple of kits online and followed the instructions, creating two blocks of garish, crumbly uninspiring soap.

"I decided I could do it better myself in a more natural way. I spent months researching, creating and testing and then took a leap of faith and got my soaps assessed and certified and created a website and went live!"

The shop is located opposite the Duke Street car park.

If coming from Mill Street, head to the back of Dukes Court and head to the very top of the stairs.

"I am very excited about this new chapter for Silktown Soap Company," Julie added.

"Although the shop is small, customers can come along and see the range of soaps, skincare and haircare on offer and pick them up and smell them to experience the difference with handmade vegan soaps."
