A main road into Macclesfield will be shut for over a week.

Resurfacing works on the B5088 Oxford Road got underway on Monday, July 28.

To allow the works to be completed, Cheshire East Council has confirmed that a closure will be in place between 8am and 5pm each day.

During this time, the road is shut from the Chester Road roundabout to the crossroads with Park Lane and Ivy Lane.

The works are expected to take eight working days, not including weekends, to complete.

It is understood that access for residents and businesses will be maintained throughout the closure.

The diversion route will be via Park Lane, Churchill Way and Cumberland Street.
