A Macclesfield charity has received £10,000, months after it was saved from an uncertain future.

The Disability Information Bureau (DIB) is a Macclesfield-based charity dedicated to empowering disabled people, those with long-term health conditions, vulnerable adults, and carers through services that enhance their wellbeing and independence.

The DIB offers support in welfare rights, job-seeking, mental health, and mobility assistance. Established in 1993, DIB is an advocate for disability inclusion across Cheshire East.

The good cause was rescued in July with the help of Community & Voluntary Services Cheshire East, and the diligent support of local councillors.

The Disability Information Bureau explained what the £10,000 will be spent on.

"The Disability Information Bureau (DIB), with support from Community & Voluntary Services Cheshire East (CVS), is delighted to have been awarded £10,000 to deliver its 'Disability Inclusion, Digitally' (DID) project through Cheshire East Council's Cost-of-Living Community Response grant," they said.

"The funding will allow DIB to offer IT classes supporting individuals experiencing barriers to online learning, to improve their digital skills and access to essential online services during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

"DIB's new project will help disabled individuals in Macclesfield and the surrounding areas develop IT skills that enhance their ability to navigate online services, find better deals on essential goods, and apply for welfare benefits. The initiative will also provide tailored support for job seekers, including IT training for job searches and digital literacy for remote working opportunities."

Aoife Middlemass is interim manager for the DIB.

"The DIB is very skilled at helping people develop their IT skills at a pace that suits them, on a 121 basis or in small groups, giving them the confidence to navigate their way around online services," they said.

"DID classes will range from basic computer skills, such as using a keyboard and mouse, to more advanced training in word processing and job searches."
