Five signs that could use some sprucing up in Macclesfield

We love celebrating the good in our town, and want to do our bit to make it even better. We went for a potter around town recently, and couldn't help but notice a few signs which need updating.

So here is our list of some signs that need rejuvenating or changing in our town.

  1. Macclesfield Town?

At the Hibel Road roundabout / The Silk Road there are two signs which point towards the location of Macclesfield Town FC. Of course, for those in the know the football club hasn't existed since 2020. Instead the roadsign should be replaced with the name of new club 'Macclesfield FC'.

Cheshire East Council are responsible for roadsign maintenance in our town. So get in touch with them if you'd like to see this updated.

  1. Brook Street Sign

The original Brook Street sign was being refurbished by Macclesfield resident Heidi Owen, but has not been put back up.

The temporary replacement, now sits propped up against the concrete, 20 feet lower than it should be.

  1. Mothercare?

Mothercare has been shut since September 2018. Once located on 30-32 Mill Street and is now occupied by Peacocks,

Round the back on Queen Victoria Street however, you'd be mistaken for Mothercare still being there. As access gates which get stock into the store still have the baby chain's name plastered on them. Two signs still say 'Mothercare'!

We appreciate Peacocks might not wish to pay for a new sign, but it would be nice to have the grimy sign at least covered up.

  1. Bus Stops

Outside Deja Vu on Chestergate you can find a knackered bus stop with a sign featuring some very 1980s/1990s looking font, if you are able to read the faded text that is!

But it isn't the only bus stop in Macclesfield which we think deserves a little TLC.

Just around the corner, a more recent bus stop on Churchill Way outside SAS Daniels LLP is equally as tired.

However, this featured the modern Cheshire East Council logo, and was installed in the last decade.

But pollution has likely removed the printing on this bus stop, just before the Cumberland Street roundabout.

With recent desires to increase our town's low bus usage rates, why not give some of Macclesfield's bus stops a reprint or brand new sign?
