A disused Macclesfield pub is set to become housing, if a planning application is approved.

The Navigation of 161 Black Road, shut last year.

Now the east Macclesfield pub is likely to become accommodation, should Cheshire East councillors approve the switch for it to become a house.

The proposal states a "Proposed change of use from public house with living accommodation above to a single domestic dwelling house, provide UPVC/PCA replacement grey windows and doors, addition of external render to the areas of exposed and painted brickwork."

In 2021, the pub was reported as needing over £35,000 worth of repairs to the building.

Macclesfield residents can submit their comments on the proposed home until January 11.

It appears the pub's owners Hawthorn have sold the building, as their name is not found on the planning application to turn the site into a house.

The Navigation was built at the same time as the nearby canal. Nearby pubs which are still open include The Dolphin and The Wharf.

2023 figures suggest almost 400 pubs shut in England and Wales last year.

Macclesfield: A final decision on the fate of the 3013.89 square foot property will be made by February 3.
