A former office building on an industrial estate at Adlington could become a special school.

Revive Education Group Ltd has submitted a prior approval application in relation to plans to change the use of Unit 18 on Adlington Park to create a school.

A statement submitted by Forefront Development Consulting on behalf of the applicant, states: "The applicants wish to use the premises as a school for pupils aged three to 14 years who cannot attend mainstream schools for various reasons, including behavioural issues.

"This will serve pupils living within 45 minutes' drive of the site.

"It is proposed that pupils will be brought to the site by taxi and minibus, accompanied by a chaperone."

The building would provide eight classrooms and would operate Monday to Friday school term times.

The planning document says the pupils are enrolled in the state school system.

The property itself is a two-storey building with off-street private parking to the front which would be used by staff and an enclosed yard to the rear for outdoor play.

According to the planning document, the applicants plan to lease the building and no elevation changes are proposed and few internal alterations.

Poynton Town Council says it has no objection in principle but raised concerns there may be a traffic impact through Poynton.

The town council also questioned the limited outdoor space for pupils, and no playing fields.

In response the applicant said: "The provision will initially rely on parents transporting children to and from school, as well as or instead of, any taxi service, as this is common practice for independent schools.

"However, our overall intention is for transportation for all pupils to be provided by an approved and appropriately trained staff member via a school minibus…

"In reference to outdoor space, this is something that has already been identified by the directors of the organisation.

"Within walking distance of our facility are numerous recreational and leisure facilities that we hope to access regularly as part of our curriculum for children…

"Furthermore, we have access to a large facility which spans 140 acres for our children to enjoy and achieve."
