Macclesfield's MP has been praised the work of local Scouts.

Tim Roca recently paid a visit to Macclesfield Congleton District Scouts' Squirrel and Beaver Fun Day at Barnswood, where he spent time himself as a child.

The event brought together young people and volunteers for a day of activities in the woodland, with Mr Roca able to find out more about the opportunities Scouting provides for over 1,350 young people across the local area.

"It was fantastic to visit the Squirrel and Beaver Fun Day and see the children enjoying themselves in the woodland," Mr Roca said.

"I was a Scout myself when I was growing up locally, so it was particularly special to return to Barnswood for the first time in 25 years.

"Scouting gives young people the chance to build their confidence, learn new skills and make lasting friendships. None of this would be possible without the brilliant volunteers who give up their time every week.

"I would like to thank everyone at Macclesfield and Congleton District Scouts for the difference they make to so many young people. I hope others will consider joining them and discover how rewarding volunteering with Scouting can be."

Macclesfield Congleton District Scouts are currently supported by around 350 regular volunteers.

However, they are looking for more people to get involved, both by working directly with young people and through roles such as trustees and administrators.

Mike Brown, district lead volunteer, said: "We're delighted that Tim was able to visit Barnswood and see Scouting in action.

"Every week, our volunteers help young people develop skills for life, build confidence and make lasting friendships through adventure.

"We currently have more than 200 young people waiting for the opportunity to join Scouting locally, and we'd love more adults to give volunteering a go.

"Whether you're looking to learn new skills, meet new people or grow in confidence yourself, there's an opportunity for everyone with The Scouts."
