Macclesfield creatives will open the doors to their studios next month.

The first-ever Macclesfield Open takes place in September, offering the public a chance to see what goes beyond behind the scenes at some of the town's creative hotspots.

The project is being led by 21-year-old artist and curator, Alfonso Paa, in partnership with local clothing brand, Tourism Board Unofficiale (TBU).

"Being part of a project that contributes to the wider creative push happening in town is a massive privilege to be given," he said.

"I am eager to hear the variation in conversations had between the public and the artists, and see what projects and collaborations it may inspire for the future."

Born in the Philippines, Alfonso was raised in Macclesfield and recently graduated from the University of the West of England with a first class honours in fine art and writing.

While studying, he began curating and directing exhibitions under the name, The FADs.

Now he is working in partnership with Thomas Broadhead from TBU to arrange Macclesfield Open 2026.

Alfonso said: "The idea was conceived under the frustration in how the creative scene in Macclesfield hasn't seemed to change in the years I've observed it, although it being a town rich with artists and practitioners.

"We envisaged an opportunity for all people in all niches to have a chance to share their interests with the public.

"We thought it would not only be beneficial for people to be introduced to unique practices but also for the younger generation, where a freelance career seems so out of reach in this climate.

"Macclesfield Open 2026 is intended to create dialogue and set a 'level playing ground' for creatives and aspiring entrepreneurs."

Macclesfield Open 2026 will take place over the first weekend in September, with venues across the town getting involved.

Confirmed so far are the likes of Harry Morgan, Pen Y Bont Ceramics, Cactus Sign Painting, Piers Henry, TBU, Bunker Vintage and Incubation Arts.

Alfonso continued: "We have aimed to design the specific days to have studios open close in proximity to each other to maximise accessibility.

"This is a chance for people of all ages to see the inner workings of a studio holder, and get an insight into the logistics and more entrepreneurial aspects."
