Future of tapas restaurant up in the air as landlord repossesses property
By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 18th Jun 2026
A tapas restaurant appears to have closed.
A possession notice has appeared on the front door of Tempranillo on Back Wallgate.
It states that the landlord has exercised their right to 'peaceably re-enter and take possession' of the premises, as of Friday, June 12.
"Any lease Or license is hereby determined," the notice adds.
"This property is now legally occupied by the landlords.
"Warning - Any attempt to break into this property will be classed as a criminal offence and will be reported to the police."
A secondary notice on the venue's front door states that all goods found in the property that are not fixtures and fittings or belong to the landlord are being held.
This includes tables, chairs, bottles of wine and various cooking equipment.
These items can be collected 'upon reasonable notice and payment of local bailiff fees'.
If not collected by Saturday, June 27, then the landlord will reserve the right to sell or dispose of them.
It is not yet clear what this all means for the future of Tempranillo.
The restaurant has been approached for comment.
