A parent is set to take on the Manchester Half Marathon as a thank you for the care his son received at Macclesfield Hospital.

Grateful dad Stewart Brothamley will take on the 13.1-mile course this weekend.

In August this year, Stewart's son Marley contracted chicken pox and scarlet fever at the same time.

Marley's infection was so bad he had cellulitis and was a few hours away from major surgery.

He was kept in Macclesfield Hospital for five days and then had to visit every other day for a further six weeks.

Stewart said: "The team at Macclesfield Children's Ward were incredible throughout the whole process. Raising money for the ward feels really close to our hearts and we cannot thank the hospital enough for the constant and careful care they took with Marley to get him better."

"Marley really was in the best hands and we'd like to raise money to show our appreciation for the wonderful work the team here do."

On Sunday October 15 Stewart will be running the Manchester Half Marathon to raise money for the Children's Ward.

The father will be aiming to complete the half marathon in as close to 90 minutes as possible.

He's already fundraised over £1050 for the local good cause, and could raise even more.

Lily Preston, Fundraising Manager at East Cheshire NHS Charity said, "Thank you to everyone who has donated to Stewart's fundraising so far. We're so pleased to hear Marley has recovered well. Good luck in the Half Marathon."
