Hundreds of home are currently without power.

The SP Electricity North West (SPENW) website is reporting that a total of 427 properties across Macclesfield, Adlington and Gawsworth are experiencing a power cut on Thursday afternoon, May 28.

It follows a thunderstorm in the area overnight, with the issues in Adlington and Gawsworth said to have been caused by an 'unexpected incident' involving the high voltage cable that provides electricity in these areas.

Meanwhile, the problems in Macclesfield are connected to a similar 'unexpected incident' involving an underground cable.

The SPENW website states: "We didn't know before your electricity went off that this was going to happen but now we know, rest assured we will get your power back on safely and as quickly as possible.

"Please be aware that all our timescales are estimated based on previous experience and may change if new information becomes available while our engineers are fixing the issue.

"With high voltage power cuts, we're often able to get many of the homes involved back on before our estimated time of restoration.

"With underground power cuts, we may need to dig to repair the cable and this can sometime extend the length of time you are without power."

Crews are currently on-site working to resolve the issues in Adlington and Gawsworth, with power expected to be restored by 4pm.

In Macclesfield, a team is on their way to look into the issues impacting those in the following postcodes - SK10 1JT, SK10 1JN, SK10 6JF, SK11 7AL, SK10 1JG, SK10 1JE, SK10 1JF.

Meanwhile, SPENW is 'preparing' to send a team to assist the 145 properties without power in the following postcodes - SK10 1JR, SK10 1FT, SK10 1FU, SK10 1FZ, SK10 1JN, SK10 1JH, SK10 1JS, SK10 1JU, SK10 1JQ, SK10 1JP, SK10 1NG, SK10 1NH, SK10 1NJ, SK10 1JG, SK11 7AJ, SK10 1JL.

Power should be restored to all of the Macclesfield properties by 7pm.

Alongside these issues with electricity, there are understood to be problems with wi-fi and phone lines.

Posting to Facebook at 1.20pm on Thursday, Bollington Town Council said: "The Town Hall office is still without Internet or phones.

"We understand from BT its a network issue in the area and may not be resolved until May 29.

"For anything urgent call the town manager on 07885 615878 or CEC on 0300 123 5500."
