Injury-plagued Macclesfield have boosted their midfield options.

The Silkmen have announced the signing of Josh Kay on loan from League Two side Oldham Athletic.

The 28-year-old arrives at an important time, with John Rooney's side having struggled with various injuries since the start of their National League North campaign.

Speaking to Silkmen TV, Rooney said: "I've known Josh a long time, I've played with him, I know what he's about, I know his character, he's a good lad and I'm sure he'll fit right in with us and the great bunch we've got in the changing room already."

Kay has previously featured for a number of higher level clubs including AFC Flyde, Chesterfield, and Barnsley and helped Oldham gain promotion from the National League last season.

Undoubtedly the highlight of his career to date came in 2020 when he was a key part of Barrow AFC's National League-winning side under then manager Ian Evatt.

Right-footed, though typically playing off the left, Kay is known for his movement on and off the ball, dribbling, and eye for a pass.

His versatility will also come in handy, with Kay capable of filling in at any of the attacking midfield roles.

Kay told Silkmen TV: "I'm really looking forward to it. I'll give 110% every game and try to make things happen.

"I feel like I've got plenty of experience which I can pass on to the younger lads.

"I played in this league early on in my career so I know it's going to be tough but I can't wait to get going and get as many games as I can under my belt."
