Listen to Peter Hook's new Joy Division EP as Macclesfield gig sells out
By Alex Greensmith 4th Oct 2021
Former Joy Division bassist Peter Hook has released his new EP - as his next gig in our town sells out.
The honorary Maxonian - who was friends with two Macclesfield members of Joy Division - will perform in our town later this month.
Dreams is an orchestral reimagining of four Joy Division tracks.
While four tracks were initially announced for the EP, the release actually featured six new pieces of recorded music.
Joy Division tracks Love Will Tear Us Apart and Atmosphere have two separate versions, along with New Dawn Fades and A Means To An End rounding out the tracklisting.
Peter Hook's new EP replaces his gristly singing voice with a soft vocal gently embedded with lush, orchestral instruments.
The haunting Ian Curtis-like vocals is by Bastien Marshall of London band The Detachments.
The release previews the Joy Division Orchestrated tour in 2022, which will have a date in Manchester.
The classical music interpretations of Joy Division tracks have already been streamed over 20,000 times.
The new release comes with more good news, as the final ticket for his second Macclesfield gig of the year sold out this afternoon.
The bassist's October 22 gig is not orchestrated, and will likely feature Hooky on vocals.
He'll headline Friday night for Macclesfield in Octoberfest, which will take place at Christ Church on Bridge Street.
The gig will raise money for the new Christies Cancer Hospital in Macclesfield, which will be complete next month.
