A man has been banned from entering an area of Macclesfield for two years after attempting set fire to a block of flats.

Terry Wilson, of no fixed address but from Macclesfield, appeared at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday 29 August where he was handed over the two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).

As a result of the order the 56-year-old is banned from entering the area covering Maplewood Flats, Macclesfield, and its car park for the next two-years.

Officers applied for the order following repeated reports of anti-social behaviour and arson, with Wilson attempting to start fires within the Maple Flats apartment complex in the Maple Avenue area of Macclesfield.

Macclesfield Police Station, of Brunswick Street.

If Wilson fails to comply with the CBO, he will be committing a criminal offence which could result in recall to prison or fine.

Sergeant Matthew Bassirat of Macclesfield LPU, said:

"Wilson's behaviour could have resulted in the residents of this apartment complex being seriously harmed, as well as extensive damage being potentially caused.

"The securing of this order, which bans him from entering Maplewood Flats and its adjoining car park, reiterates our commitment to keep Macclesfield's residents safe and targeting those who insist on committing crime and causing issues in our community.

"I hope the granting of this CBO can provide some reassurance to residents in the area and will deter Wilson's behaviour in the future.

Anyone who encounters Wilson breaching the restrictions of his order is urged to contact Cheshire Police via cheshire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/soh/seen-or-heard/ or call 101, to report it.
