Macclesfield's independent cinema will be offering discounted tickets for a range of films this weekend.

Visitors to Cinemac, of Roe Street, have four films to choose from this Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd September.

The flash sale on tickets is to celebrate National Cinema Day.

Cinemagoers can see new films from Mission Impossible, Barbie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or an upscaled anniversary-showing of Jurassic Park for just £3 per ticket.

Or, if you're looking to make the experience extra special, you can buy deluxe seats for £4, or a sofa for £5 per person.

Discounted snacks are also up for grabs, with a medium popcorn plus a drink available for £5.

Cinemac Director Jordan Wilson explained what visitors can expect on the day.

"To celebrate cinemas, we've put tickets out as cheap as we can", he said.

"We've got a great selection of films, too. There's something for everyone. Bookings are through the roof already.

"For £3, even if you want to take a gamble on Barbie, it's definitely worth it.

"For £8, you get a film, and snacks to keep you going. It's a great deal, I think."

As well as being an excellent opportunity for cinema fans, this special event is part of a general upsurge in the local cinema scene, and a welcome boost for independent venues such as Cinemac.

As Jordan explains, local cinemas struggled earlier in the year. "Barbenheimer [Barbie and Oppenheimer] really came in and saved the day", he said.

"Admissions were low before it. Ever since Barbie, we've got about 150 people per screening."

Certainly, National Cinema Day is an excellent excuse to get back into local venues such as Cinemac, particularly for those who haven't visited for a while.

As Jordan says: "It's a great way to get re-introduced to the cinema."

"There have been a number of changes: we've got more sofas than ever, we've got new-look seats, we've got a new and improved bar menu, and the layout has changed a lot."

And with big releases such as Dune 2 and Haunting in Venice in the pipeline, there's even more to look forward to at Cinemac.

So, if you're looking to support local businesses and enjoy the wonder of cinema, this weekend is an excellent opportunity to do so.

And, as Jordan says, keep an open mind with films: "The films that you haven't heard of have been the bigger hits."

"Keep an eye out for the unexpected, and definitely give things a go."
