Local Football Clubs In #StopOnlineAbuse Social Media Shut Down

Macclesfield football clubs big and small will refuse to post to social media this weekend - despite games being played.
This is due to the #StopOnlineAbuse campaign - which fights the increasing racism and abuse footballers have received from fans via social media.
The boycott of social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and Twitter will kick-off at midnight tonight.
The Football Association wants more accountability for safety on social media platforms, by implementing identity verification processes to anyone who makes an account.
It has also been suggested a warning message should display if a user tries to send an abusive message.
Macclesfield FC said: "We implore social media companies to take more decisive action in order to #StopOnlineAbuse."
"Join with us and switch off too, as together we demand immediate and effective change."
Tytherington Juniors FC, who were awarded a £2000 grant from Macclesfield Town Council earlier this week, are also partaking in the social media switch-off.
"Tytherington Juniors Football Club stand in support with The FA, The Premier League, EFL, FA Women's Super League, FA Women's Championship, PFA, LMA, PGMOL & Kick it Out in a social media boycott from 3pm Friday 30 April to 11:59pm on Monday 3 May," they said on Twitter.
"The above is in response to the ongoing and sustained discriminatory abuse received online by players and many others connected to football.
"No Tytherington Juniors team will be updating any social media platform during this time. We thank you in advance for your support".
Bollington FC added: "Bollington is an equal opportunities club, more of how we plan to show this coming soon, however we will be observing the silence until Tuesday #weareallequal #onehumanrace #BLM".
