A 49.2ft street pole could be installed to help supply 5G communications to the people of Macclesfield.

A planning application submitted on the Cheshire East Council website reveals plans for a new 5G mast on Kennedy Avenue.

5G broadcasts at a higher frequency, gaining the internet user faster download speeds and less lag in our data-heavy world.

However, the public have been skeptical on potential health affects of 5G, despite research suggesting that there are not any.

Theories about the public health risk of 5G towers proliferated during the first COVID-19 lockdown, with numerous phone masks across the UK being attacked throughout 2020.

This potential site in Upton Priory is located near a pharmacy, care home and small retail park. However, no school is located within 650 feet of the site.

CK Hutchison Networks (UK) Ltd want to install the new telecommunications pole, along with additional equipment cabinets.

A planning document identifies the Kennedy Avenue site as the Macclesfield spot they wanted to expand to, after ruling out options like Batemill Close, Home Farm Avenue and Renfrew Close.

Three years ago, theories proliferated the web about 5G causing COVID-19. While the World Health Organisation sought to dispel this, many members of the public are still concerned over the radiation 5G causes, despite lacking evidence to support these claims. (Image - World Health Organization)

It also states that they looked into putting the potential pole in another part of Kennedy Avenue, before settling on this spot.

It would be the second 5G pole installed in Macclesfield this year, if approved.

Residents have until February 8 to raise any concerns or messages of support.

Councillors could vote on the plans as soon as March 2.
