Activists continue to call for the government to impose sanctions on Israel.

Global Justice Macclesfield will stage their latest monthly silent vigil outside the Town Hall this Friday, November 7.

It is the first since a ceasefire deal was reached in Gaza, with hostages and prisoners returned.

However, Global Justice Macclesfield say there is still work to be done.

A spokesperson for the group said: "The ceasefire in Gaza and the return of hostages to Israel, and detainees and prisoners to Palestine was hugely welcomed.

"It was a consequence of a number of factors; Trump's 20 point peace plan, the efforts of Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, increased internal pressure within Israel, and international pressure as Israel risked becoming a pariah state in the eyes of many.

"However, the ceasefire is fragile, peace is elusive and lives are still lost."

The spokesperson added: "Illegal settlements continue with little sign of a peaceful and prosperous co-existence emerging.

"The citizens of Gaza return to scenes of devastation and loss.

"We invite you to join us in a silent vigil as we continue to hold in mind the innumerable person tragedies that have taken place over the last two years, and as we hold out hope for a better future."

The silent vigil takes place from 5pm to 6pm.

Those wishing to attend are asked not to chant or bring their own banners or flags.

Placards will be provided by Global Justice Macclesfield.
