Macclesfield: Could you help donate to the medical bills for this poorly pupper?

Adult dog Jay is a hairless Westie with a lot of love to give.

We first reported on bald Macclesfield doggy Jay last March, but since then the male mutt has had continued to have issues with his health.

Now, a crowdfunder has been launched to cover the costs of his vet bills and medication, the latter of which he takes daily.

27 people have donated, as of January 25 2022. You can watch a video of Jay playing at the top of this article.

He has tried to find a Macclesfield family which would adopt him, however after a year of no interest, RSPCA Macclesfield are struggling to pay his medical bills.

A crowdfunder has been set up by Rae Black has been set up to support the dog fighting infections, and a furless life.

"Jay is a spicy little potato, complete with a true Westie temperament - a real character indeed," she said.

"Jay has been well cared for from being a puppy (we have full medical history) but has had skin and allergy issues his whole life (hence having no fur); unfortunately a common problem with the breed.

From steroid spray for his paws to allergy meds and Maleseb baths. This dog needs quite a bit of medication to have the quality of life it deserves.

"Sadly, his elderly owners suddenly became ill and could not take care of him anymore.

"He is currently under the care of RSPCA Macclesfield, SE Cheshire & Buxton Branch and has been in his lovely foster home for over a year now.

"Jay needed veterinary care upon arrival and continues to do so. He has ongoing allergies, and therefore needs a lot of daily medication - which is proving to be very expensive indeed.

"He has eye drops for dry eye which is permanent, a cream massaged into his skin daily, medicated shampoo, and recently has had some bad ear infections, for which he is receiving treatment and is under regular vet review until we can get them under control.

RSPCA Macclesfield has been a force for good in our town since October 1969.

"For this reason, we have put Jay's quest to find his forever home on hold - it would be unfair to uproot him until we know the outcome of his ear problems."

£475 (almost half) of the £1000 fundraising goal has been raised as of publication of this article.

"The outgoing for Jay's medical care have mounted up over the last year, and in the last three months alone, have cost us £848.72," added Rae of RSPCA Macclesfield.

"He is on a RAW food diet too, which is working well for his skin, but is also quite pricey.

"We know it is going to be a struggle to find a home that will tick all of Jay's boxes, and before he was put on hold for his ear problems, we had tried a few times with potential adopters, but sadly they didn't work out.

This hair-free dog from Macclesfield has had skin and allergy issues for over a decade. And the cost of his vet bills are mounting up.

"Mostly due to the cost of his ongoing care and that he needs to be an only dog.

"But we won't give up on Jay - he is a cheeky chappie with heaps of charm and who has expensive taste - but being that cute doesn't come cheap!

"It takes a lot of work to look as good as he does - and he deserves the very best!

"These last couple of years have been a challenge for everyone, but sadly the worst is yet to come for us. After 2 years of not being able to fundraise in our usual ways, we are hitting very hard financial times.

"We do not have a centre or office, we are not paid as our branch is ran entirely by volunteers - we just do the best we can to help as many animals as possible within our capabilities.

"But we can't do it without your help, this fundraiser is to help cover Jay's ever mounting vet costs, so we can continue to care for him and our other branch animals, any help would make a huge difference for us. Thank you."

It is hoped that with full medical bills paid and Jay continuing to make a recovery, the postponement of Jay's rehoming may be resumed.

January 30 will mark Jay's first year in the care of RSPCA Macclesfield and foster home, which is also in our town.

Perhaps the people of Macclesfield could help give him an anniversary present by meeting the goal for his gofundme.

If the total donations go over the £1000 goal, they will be used to support other animals needing adoption or are under the care of RSPCA Macclesfield.
