Macclesfield artist is commissioned by MTV

An artist from Macclesfield has completed a piece of work for American TV giant MTV.

Professional artist Charlotte Oxenham (24), who lives in the town centre, thought it was a wind-up when the Viacom-owned entertainment network got in touch with her.

Charlotte reimagined Leonardo Da Vinci's classic piece of artwork, with figures who dominated the red carpet in 2021.

Those sketched include pop musician Rihanna and actor Timothee Chalamet.

Charlotte, whose work can be found in corner shops and exhibitions across Macclesfield, told Macclesfield Nub News how the amazing opportunity came about.

"I received an email from MTV in November just before my birthday from the Social Media Manager of the company, saying how they recently came across my artwork on TikTok and was such a huge fan of my last supper pieces," she recalled.

Charlotte had previously reinterpreted the 15th-century mural painting with 1990s pop culture icons like Mariah Carey, to thousands of viewers online.

"They asked to commission my services to create a custom last supper piece with six digital breakouts & still photography to celebrate some of the most iconic red carpet moments from pop culture duos & trios for MTV's social media pages," she explained.

"At first I thought it was a scam because I never thought a huge company I grew up watching would ever notice me, let alone would want to work with me! I was very excited and shocked from the opportunity.

"I had to video myself painting each celebrity for their Social Media pages since mine were so successful on my own Tiktok page. The physical painting is in their offices now."

Two of the famous subjects - musicians Little Mix and FINNEAS have revealed their enjoyment of the Macclesfield artist's work.

"I guess [being tagged on Instagram] is how they saw it which I am still surprised about," Charlotte said.

"I'm so honoured they have actually seen my work. A lot of Little Mix fans [have messaged me saying they] really admire it too.

"Billie Eilish has been one of my favourite artists for three years which was why I was so happy her brother [FINNEAS] shared the artwork! I love her music and carefree personality.

"I had a three week deadline and although I was stressing with having a part-time job that would hold up my time, my managers nicely reduced my hours so I could work on the project."

The artwork was on an A1 Canvas and painted in acrylic. She added marker pen and pencil for the little details.

Charlotte has almost 100,000 followers on TikTok, where clips of her creative process have been liked almost four million times.

Residents of Macclesfield can commission her, just like the music TV giant did.

"I am available to do any size painting/drawing for anyone," she added.

"For any occasion such as birthday or anniversary gifts. You can find out more information and prices on my website.

"My message to the people of Macc would be: No matter where you're from, do not give up. It sounds cheesy but I never thought as a small artist based in Macclesfield that a huge company would commission me to do a big piece of artwork. Anything is possible!"

You can follow Charlotte on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.

All the famous figures in artwork are listed from left to right as follows: ASAP Rocky, Rihanna, Finneas, Billie Eilish, Perrie, Jade, Leigh-Anne (Little Mix), Megan Fox, Machine Gun Kelly, Zendaya, Timothee Chalamet, Naomi Osaka and Cordae.
