A Macclesfield barbershop has been named Britain's best.

The team at Crate Cheshire are in celebration mode after being crowned Barbershop of the Year at the British Hairdressing Business Awards 2025.

For company founder Charles Rose, this accolade is recognition of the vital role salons and barbershops play in keeping high streets alive and kicking.

He said: "We are absolutely thrilled to have won and it truly is an incredible honour.

"This win is for our whole team.

"It's a celebration of everything we believe in, and our community spirit and incredible team and clients is what makes our business the great place it is.

"To be recognised nationally with this award makes us all very proud of our work."

The awards, held at the Royal Lancaster London earlier this month, were hosted by TV personality Ben Shephard, best known for his work on This Morning and Tipping Point.

Crate Cheshire, who have barbershops in Macclesfield, Knutsford and Northwich, were praised by judges for their values, skill, attitude and outreach.

They said: "The team at Crate Cheshire have built an exceptional business that exemplifies innovation, consistency, and purpose.

"From outstanding financial growth - boosting profits while raising turnover – to mental health initiatives like ' Short Chat & Sides' and a strong commitment to education and community.

"The clear brand identity, dedication to staff development, and high standards across service, training, and communication make them a standout in the industry.

"With a forward-thinking approach and authentic client engagement, Crate Cheshire is not only raising the bar but redefining what success looks like in grooming."

Jayne Lewis-Orr, executive director of the HJ (Hairdressers Journal) British Hairdressing Business Awards, added: "We're incredibly proud to be part of an industry that blends creativity, resilience, and community impact in such powerful ways.

"These awards honour the passion and innovation that drive our sector forward and also celebrate the essential role salons play on our high streets - creating jobs, supporting local economies and increasingly providing spaces to connect."
