A Bollington pub is doing their bit for the community, by raising money for charity.

The Spinners Arms has organised a fundraising football match this weekend in aid of a local foodbank.

The Palmerston Street pub will host a charity game of footie this Sunday, in aid of Macclesfield's Silklife Foodbank.

And a famous footballer will be part of the line-up. Ex-Manchester United player Brian McClair will be playing.

The Red Devils legend played 471 times for Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United.

Captaining the other side will be Jason Oakes, a Bollingtonian and regular of the pub.

Jason taking on the armband of the other team adds extra spice, as he is a lifelong Liverpool FC supporter.

For those attending the game, food donations are recommended, but there will be a charity pop if you prefer to donate funds instead.

The game kicks off at Bollington Recreation Ground at 1pm on Sunday September 10.

The Spinners Arms told Macclesfield Nub News: "Manchester United legend Brian McClair and local legend Jason Oakes, art gallery owner of Northern Makes at Clarence Mill came up with idea after a lengthy chat about footie in The Spinners Arms."

"The whole idea is to have a kick around at the park as they did as kids. All to raise money for George Street charity Silklife Foodbank.

"Players range in age ability and fitness, any sliding tackles will be met with a £20 fine (for to the charity), bad sportsmanship and hissy fits will be charged at the same rate. (All for a good cause.)

"And add to this nostalgic event a retro 80's style buffet will be supplied by The Spinners after the game, and yes there will be a cheese and pineapple hedgehog and trifle."

They do a fundraising drive for Silklife Foodbank every year, but this is the first time they have done a footie match.

The pub is known for doing their bit for charity, having done fundraisers for Space4Autism earlier in the year. They also sell Marie Curie flowers at the pub.

They also have charity pots for The Christie Macclesfield.

Earlier this year, the pub launched a new pizza menu. Please click HERE to learn more about that.
