A professional footballer born in Macclesfield has taken an interesting career turn in a bid to become Christmas Number One.

Ex-England striker Peter Crouch, who was born and spent the first year in his life in Macclesfield, has released his first ever studio album.

Crouchy Conducts the Classics is an eight song album of football chants conducted by the former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur player.

As if the collaboration couldn't get anymore weird, Crouchy's choir includes the first-ever winner of Britain's Got Talent.

English tenor Paul Potts, who won the TV talent show in 2007, lends his pipes to the album which lasts just seven minutes.

Tracks include a song about England 2022 World Cup squad member Jack Grealish, and a Christmas-themed footie track called The Twelve Days of Football.

The record is done in association with the betting company Paddypower.

It is Crouch's second commercial opportunity launched during the Qatar World Cup, following a raffle of memorabilia with online auctioneer eBay.

You can listen to the album here and the title track at the top of this article.
