A Macclesfield secondary school have raised hundreds for a local domestic abuse charity.

Last week, the Women's Student Group at Tytherington School ran a successful bake sale in aid of a local charity- My CWA (Cheshire Without Abuse).

My CWA does important work in supporting families affected by domestic abuse and offers counselling services and crisis accommodation.

You may know them from their charity shop on Jordangate in Macclesfield.

The final count showed that the sale raised a total of £207.07 for the charity.

Tytherington School Headteacher Manny Botwe said: "The bake sale was ran entirely by the Tytherington School Women's Group students.

"They baked or brought in cakes and set these up for sale (with some excellent decorations) and ran the sale during their lunchtime.

"As the photos show, it was a busy event to manage! It was a fantastic effort from all involved.

"Many thanks to everyone who baked for donated to the sale and who attended and purchased cakes on the day. Your generosity will make a huge difference to those in need."

Cheshire Without Abuse is a community where adults and children affected by domestic abuse can get the support they need. Their headquarters are in Crewe.

Kate Ormerod, Fundraising Lead at My CWA, sent her thanks on behalf of the charity: "Donations from fundraising really do make such a tangible, positive impact on those we help," she said.

"From funding our 24/7 helpline, to maintaining our crisis accommodation and helping to create play rooms for children to use for counselling or play-based therapy – every single penny donated is used to help those in need."

The bake sale coincided with concerns across the county that domestic abuse rates will rise this winter, with the combination of Christmas and a winter World Cup. Cheshire Police have been in to pubs in Macclesfield to hand out material on domestic abuse, and to allow staff to be trained to look out for signs.
